• at 7 weeks of age, males have a lower (-10%) body weight than wild-type males, while females show a 5% decrease

respiratory system
• many mutants exhibiting inspiratory stridor show lung inflammation upon examination, with areas of leukocyte infiltration; no asymptomatic animals displayed inflammation
• width of rings and U-shaped form of rings remain intact, but a ventrally pointed appearance is evident
• external diameter is reduced by an average of 18%, resulting in a 32% decrease in cross-sectional area
• mice show tracheal stenosis
• some mutants (20%) at any one time display inspiratory stridor, evidenced by a high-pitched wheezing noise; this could be severe at times, but mice could be asymptomatic within weeks
