• an impaired fertilization rate was shown in vitro

• mutants become sick 4-6 weeks after birth and most die by 9 weeks after birth
• number of mutants living longer than 3 weeks is smaller than expected

• observed first around 3 weeks of age
• mean body weight is less than controls at 3 weeks of age

cardiovascular system
• severe degeneration of myofibers is seen at necropsy
• prior to eosinophilic infiltration (at 4 weeks of age), myocytes already show degenerative changes such as irregular size of condensed mitochondria, indicating myoctes are damaged prior to eosinophilic infiltration
• massive myocarditis with eosinophilic infiltration is seen after 4-6 weeks of age
