mortality/aging
• homozygous neonates do not feed and die within the first postnatal day

nervous system

N
• heterozygous mice do not show abnormalities in acoustic startle response, prepulse inhibition, contextual learning, or auditory cued conditioning
• control mice do not exhibit a change in exploratory activity by an administration of 0.02 mg/kg of nicotine, but this treatment sharply reduces the level of activity of heterozygous mice
• at 11 months of age, there was reduced amphetamine-induced locomotion in heterozygous but not in control mice
• both control and heterozygous mice show some improvement across days in their ability to remain on the accelerating rotarod, but heterozygotes performed more poorly overall on later days
• during the test period in a novel environment, heterozygous mice show a significantly higher level of ambulation than the controls
• control mice do not exhibit a change in exploratory activity by an administration of 0.02 mg/kg of nicotine, but this treatment sharply reduces the level of activity of heterozygous mice
• in the elevated plus maze, heterozygotes display greater anxiety as measured by percentage of entrances into open arm, percentage of time in open arms, percentage of time in the closed arms, and the number of times to the end of the open arm; no overall difference in activity in this maze between heterozygotes and controls is seen
• in the mirrored chamber test, heterozygotes displayed more anxiety as measured by the latency (seconds) to enter mirrored chamber and number of entrances into the mirrored chamber
• in the light/dark box, heterozygotes did not differ from controls in total transitions from light/dark, percentage of time in the light box, and latency to enter the dark side
