growth/size/body
N
• weight is normal on a normal diet
• increased 10% over controls

adipose tissue
• substantially decreased
• no visible fat droplets in brown fat cells
• epididymal fat pad weight remains 25% of normal after 14 weeks on a high fat diet even though this weight is increased 80% over the weight on a normal diet
• males show a 72% reduction in the combined epididymal, retroperitoneal, inguinal fat pad total weight
• females show a 63% reduction in the combined parametrial, retroperitoneal, inguinal fat pad total weight
• occasional animals with no visible fat pads

liver/biliary system
• no lipid depositions in the liver

homeostasis/metabolism
• greater increase in plasma leptin as fat mass increases than seen in control mice
• oxygen consumption at thermoneutrality (30C) is 16% greater than in controls
• oxygen consumption at 24C is normal
• plasma insulin levels are elevated in non fasted females
• glucose intolerance develops in mice weighing over 30g
• basal glycerol or free fatty acid release is about 4 fold greater than for controls
• stimulated glycerol release only about 30% of control level
• stimulated glycerol or free fatty acid release shows a 3 fold increase compared to the 30 fold increase in control mice
