Generalized edema in Calcrltm1Kmca/Calcrltm1Kmca, Admtm1Unc/Admtm1Unc, and Ramp2tm1Kmca/Ramp2tm1Kmca mice

mortality/aging
• mice die 1 to 2 days after developing edema

immune system
• at E13.5, the jugular lymph sac is smaller than in wild-type mice despite lymphedema
• proliferation of lymphatic endothelial cells is decreased compared to in wild-type mice

homeostasis/metabolism
• at E13.5, mice exhibit interstitial edema without hemorrhage

Massive generalized edema of Admtm1Unc/Admtm1Unc embryos

mortality/aging

cardiovascular system
• major arteries have thinner walls and are irregular in shape
• left ventricular trabecular overdevelopment; increased number of trabeculae
• mutant hearts are 2/3 of the normal size
• the left ventricle has a thinner, convoluted compact zone

embryo
• increased apoptosis in the innermost border of the maternal-fetal interface of the placenta at E13.5
• increased apoptosis of parietal trophoblast cells
• in the innermost border of the maternal-fetal interface of the placenta at E13.5
• fetal vessels are abnormally large and under-branched compared to in wild-type mice
• increase in fetal space is accompanied by a decrease in maternal sinuses
• ovary transplantation experiments demonstrate that placental defects are independent of maternal genotype
• however, the total area of vascular space is normal
• fetal sinuses of the placenta are larger than in wild-type mice

homeostasis/metabolism
• general edema, associated with increased size of thoracic cavity (J:67044)
• onset of edema occurs at E13.5 (J:106927)

muscle
• left ventricular trabecular overdevelopment; increased number of trabeculae
• by E13.5, see a 6-fold increase in apoptosis throughout the heart, particularly in the ventricular apex, endocardial cushion, and septum

cellular
• by E13.5, see a 6-fold increase in apoptosis throughout the heart, particularly in the ventricular apex, endocardial cushion, and septum
• increased apoptosis in the innermost border of the maternal-fetal interface of the placenta at E13.5
• increased apoptosis of parietal trophoblast cells

hematopoietic system

immune system

reproductive system
• reduced maternal spiral artery remodeling with thick smooth muscle layer throughout the decidua
• reduced proliferation of endothelial cells in spiral arteries and failure to shed smooth muscle cells

endocrine/exocrine glands

cardiovascular system
• male cardiomyocytes are larger than in Tg(Alb1-Ren)1Unc male mice

• 149+/-12 mmHg compared to 108+/-9 mmHg in wild-type mice
• however, blood pressure is not significantly different from Tg(Alb1-Ren)1Unc containing mice

renal/urinary system
• glomerulosclerosis is worse in male mice than in Tg(Alb1-Ren)1Unc male mice
• however, there is no difference in glomerulosclerosis in female mice compared to Tg(Alb1-Ren)1Unc female mice
