mortality/aging
• none survive to adulthood on a 129S6/SvEv genetic background
• while some mice are alive at weaning, none survive to adulthood on a 129S6/SvEv genetic background
• Background Sensitivity: viability is unimpaired on a genetic background involving approximately equal contributions from the 129S6/SvEv and CD1 backgrounds

endocrine/exocrine glands
• progressive reduction in size resulting in adult testes two-thirds to half the size of those of wild-type
• selective reduction in the volume of seminiferous epithelium

growth/size/body
• both males and females are ~70% the size of wild-type littermates at 3 weeks of age

reproductive system
• asynapsis observed 17.6% of pachytene nuclei
• non-homologous synapsis observed in 3.9% of pachytene nuclei
• increased apoptosis of pachytene spermatocytes
• some progression through meiosis in spite of partial asynapsis
• enlarged round spermatids
• progressive reduction in size resulting in adult testes two-thirds to half the size of those of wild-type
• selective reduction in the volume of seminiferous epithelium
• litters produce by mutant females were approximately half the size of those birthed by wild-type females
• males are infertile; however, serum testosterone levels are normal

homeostasis/metabolism

• asynapsis observed 17.6% of pachytene nuclei
• non-homologous synapsis observed in 3.9% of pachytene nuclei
• increased apoptosis of pachytene spermatocytes
