Find Mice Using the International Mouse Strain Resource (IMSR)
Mouse lines carrying:
Gap43tm1Kmr mutation (0 available); any Gap43 mutation (27 available)
phenotype observed in females
phenotype observed in males
N normal phenotype
mortality/aging
• less than 5% of mice born survive weaning
• 50% of mice die within 2 days of birth and most of the remainder die between P14 and P21

nervous system
• branching of thalamocortical afferents is inappropriate compared to in wild-type mice producing larger than barrel branches
• pathfinding of thalamocortical neurons is abnormal
• thalamococortical afferents are misrouted due to imprecise targeting in the cortex unlike in wild-type mice
• thalamocortical afferents are disrupted compared to in wild-type mice
• pathfinding of thalamocortical neurons is abnormal
• the presumptive barrel field contains irregularly shaped blotches when labeled for the serotonin transporter unlike in wild-type mice
• by P90, standard Nissl staining fails to reveal a normal barrel pattern
