N normal phenotype
adipose tissue
• mice exhibit decreased white adipose tissue and perirenal, retroperitoneal, and subcutaneous abdominal fat compared to in wild-type mice
• brown fat cells from lipodystrophic mice exhibit a reduction in number and size with a corresponding increase in the cytoplasm volume unlike in brown adipose tissue
• white fat cells from lipodystrophic mice are small, contain small fat vacuoles, and exhibit a 3-fold increase in cell density compared to in normal wild-type white adipose tissue
• 25% of mice display lipodystrophy
• release of free fatty acid from epididymal adipose tissue is increased compared to in wild-type mice and not inhibited by the addition of pyruvate

homeostasis/metabolism
N
• mice exhibit normal levels of circulating insulin, and glucose levels
• moderate after overnight fasting
• in fed and fasted lipodystrophic mice despite an increase upon fasting
• in fed and fasted lipodystrophic mice despite an increase upon fasting
• in lipodystrophic mice

liver/biliary system
• in lipodystrophic mice
