homeostasis/metabolism
• mice exhibit a blunted increase in serum corticosterone levels in an elevated plus maze compared with wild-type mice
• mice exhibit a reduction in the hypothermic effect caused by 0.16 mg/kg 8-OH-DPAT compared with similarly treated wild-type mice
• however, the hypothermic response induced by higher doses of 8-OH-DPAT is normal
• serotonin neurons exhibit a reduction in the firing inhibition induced by exposure to 8-OH-DPAT that is observed in wild-type neurons
• mice exhibit a reduction in the hypothermic effect caused by 0.16 mg/kg 8-OH-DPAT compared with similarly treated wild-type mice
• however, the hypothermic response induced by higher doses of 8-OH-DPAT is normal

behavior/neurological
• unlike in wild-type mice, RP67580 fails to act as an anxiolytic
• however, diazepam produces normal anxiolytic effects
• in an elevated plus maze, mice display increased time, percentage of entries, and head dips in the open arms compared with wild-type mice
• however, activity levels are normal
• mice exhibit reduced latency to retrieving food from the center of an open field compared with wild-type mice
• mice exhibit slightly less response to mechanical stimuli at the second highest intensity compared with wild-type mice
• after formalin injection, mice do not respond during the second phase unlike similarly treated wild-type mice
• however, first phase response to formalin injection is normal
• 21 days after formalin injection, mice exhibit less response to higher intensities of heat or mechanical stimuli compared with similarly treated wild-type mice
• at P8, mice produce fewer ultrasonic vocalizations compared with wild-type mice
• unlike in wild-type mice, RP67580 fails to act as an anxiolytic
• however, diazepam produces normal anxiolytic effects

nervous system
• the firing rates of serotonin neurons is increased compared to in wild-type mice
• serotonin neurons exhibit a reduction in the firing inhibition induced by exposure to 8-OH-DPAT that is observed in wild-type neurons
• however, the function of postsynaptic hippocampal 5-HT1A receptors is normal
