endocrine/exocrine glands
• tips of ducts show clustered buds compared to the smooth structure characteristic of normal terminal ducts
• some ducts show regions with indistinct epithelial-stromal boundary and multiple branched outgrowths of disorganized epithelial cell masses at the tips
• thickening of the mammary gland duct wall due to multilayered composition of the wall with a disorganized basement membrane and decreased cell-cell adhesion
• mammary gland end buds with unusual morphology persist in ovariectomized prepubertal mice; these end buds have unusual fibrous caps and the continuity of cap cells is disrupted
• mammary glands of young adult nonovariectomized mice exhibit extensive lateral branching
• ducts exhibit increased numbers of buds growing from what are normally growth-quiescent zones
• ductal hyperplasia and extensive lateral branching
