hematopoietic system
• treatment of thymocytes and peripheral T cells with anti-CD3 to mimic high affinity TCR interaction results in less apoptosis than observed in heterozygous controls
• at 2-5 weeks of age, thymi are generally ~10% larger than in heterozygotes; by 29 to 32 weeks of age, difference has become ~30%
• small but significant increase in total number of thymocytes is seen compared to heterozygous controls
• induction of DP thymocytes by anti-CD3, suggesting that negative selection is impaired by deficiency

hematopoietic system
• by 14 weeks of age, thymus is almost undetectable in ~50% of the animals
• at 10 weeks, significant inhibition of negative selection is observed; however, substantial negative selection occurs, as male thymi contain 1/100 the number of cells found in females
• at 10 weeks, significant inhibition of negative selection is observed; however, substantial negative selection occurs, as male thymi contain 1/100 the number of cells found in females
• positive selection is not impaired
