• at E8.5 a single small homozygote with head anlage but lacking other structural elements found, also 7 resorbing embryos
• E7.5 1/5-1/4 normal size homozygotes and elongated shape

• histologically normal visceral and parietal endoderm is present at E5.5 and the ectoplacental cone is forming
• at E6.5 and E7.5, only two germ layers are present
• E7.5 embryos apparently arrested prior to gastrulation
• at 6.5 dpc, mutant embryos exhibit slight growth retardation
• at E5.5, a disorganized epiblast is seen
• at E6.5, the number of epiblast cells appeared to be greatly reduced and the cells were disorganized
• at E7.5, more epiblast cells are apparent, but cells were more disorganized
• apoptosis of epiblast cells occurs by E6.5
• no indications of mesoderm formation at E7.5
• mutant embryos showed no Brachyury expression, a marker of mesodermal cells, at E7.5
• inner cell mass cells from cultured blastocysts cease to develop normally after 3 days in culture
• cell numbers are greatly reduced by days 5-6 in culture
• cavity is not obvious at E5.5
• a more obvious pro-amniotic cavity is present at E6.5 that contains increased numbers of dead cells, presumably from the epiblast
