• CD8+ and to a lesser extent CD4+ T cells produce more IFN-gamma following anti-CD3 and anti-CD28 stimulation
• CD4+ T cells produce less IL-4 following treatment with anti-CD3 +/- anti-CD28
• homozygous mutants have an impaired ability to clear infections of L. major on a C57BL/6 background but not on a BALB/c background
