cardiovascular system
• at E8.5 mutant placentas lack fetal blood vessels
• at E9.5-10.5 the ventricles of the heart are laterally displaced
• at E9.5-10.5 the pericardium is filled with blood
• subcutaneous hematomas are seen at various sites on the body

cellular
• under conditions that induce differentiation few mutant embryonic stem cells differentiate and almost all proliferation is stopped
• telomere length is significantly shorter and chromosomal abnormalities are seen in differentiating cells

embryo
• at E8.5 mutant placentas lack fetal blood vessels
• embryos become progressively more growth retarded at E9.5 and E10.5
• mutant embryos are smaller than wild-type littermates by E8.5
• fewer cells are seen in the cranial paraxial mesoderm
• at E8.5 smaller head folds are seen
• at E9.5 and E10.5 closure defects in and an irregularly shaped neural tube with poor epithelial organization and fewer cells are seen
• at E8.5, a wider floor plate is is found in the neural groove
• fewer and abnormally packed neural crest cells are seen in the dorsal root ganglia
• E9.5 and E10.5 embryos show closure defects of the fore- and midbrain
• at E8.5 the trophoblast cell layer is thinner in the chorionic labyrinth
• at E8.5 the ectoplacental cone is significantly smaller
• at E8.5 the bulbous allantois is smaller compared to wild-type littermates
• at E9.5-10.5 the bulbous allantois fails to fuse with the chorion of the placenta

growth/size/body
• embryos become progressively more growth retarded at E9.5 and E10.5
• mutant embryos are smaller than wild-type littermates by E8.5
• fewer cells are seen in the cranial paraxial mesoderm

nervous system

• fewer and abnormally packed neural crest cells are seen in the dorsal root ganglia
• E9.5 and E10.5 embryos show closure defects of the fore- and midbrain

muscle
• at E9.5 and E10.5 the dermomyotome and myotome contain fewer cells
• at E9.5 and E10.5 the dermomyotome and myotome contain fewer cells

homeostasis/metabolism
• at E9.5-10.5 the pericardium is filled with blood
