phenotype observed in females

endocrine/exocrine glands
• mutant females have underdeveloped nipples
• nipple size is significantly smaller than in wild-type females as seen on postpartum day 2
• although difference in nipple size is more striking during pregnancy and lactation, this effect is noted even in non-pregnant females
• all mutant females are unable to nurse their pups despite normal nursing behavior

reproductive system
• about 9% of mutant females are unable to deliver pups
• a greater percentage of pups are stillborn to mutant females compared to wild-type females regardless of the genotype of the pups

respiratory system
• fibrosis is seen around the vascular bundles and the bronchioles but not in the parenchyma at 1 and 6 months of age

integument
• mutant females have underdeveloped nipples
• nipple size is significantly smaller than in wild-type females as seen on postpartum day 2
