• apoptotic cell death in retinas incubated in ischemic solution for 1hour is significantly lower than in wild-type retinas in the outer (35% vs 17%) and inner (21% vs 5%) nuclear layers of the retina and the granule cell layer (28% vs 9%)
• at 3 and 6 hours of incubation in ischemic solution, retinas of wild-type, Sstr1-null, and Sstr-2 null retinas show similar levels of apoptosis

• at postnatal day 14 and in adult mice, enlargements at the tips of the rod bipolar cells are 21+/-11% and 25+/-1% larger, respectively, than in wild-type mice
• membrane capacitance of rod bipolar cells is increased and octreotide-induced inhibition of potassium current and glutamate release is enhanced in mutant retinas

nervous system
• at postnatal day 14 and in adult mice, enlargements at the tips of the rod bipolar cells are 21+/-11% and 25+/-1% larger, respectively, than in wild-type mice
• spontaneous bursting recorded in the hippocampal CA3 region is reduced 34% (18.0+/-0.2 per minute compared to 27.4+/-0.2 per minute in wild-type mice)
• unlike in wild-type mice, epileptiform activity is unaffected by SRIF, CH-275, SRA-880 and octreotide
