mortality/aging
• fewer than expected are found at weaning
• Background Sensitivity: with further crosses to C57BL/6 mice the number of mutants found at weaning decreases
growth/size/body
• about 40% of P5 - P16 homozygotes have a body weight that is less than 75% of their littermate average
• however, mice with reduced body weight are not normally found at weaning
skeleton
• at P10 the skull vault height to length and height to width ratios are increased in small mice only
• variable abnormalities of the middle ear bones in some small mice
• at P14 small mice have severely reduced ossification zones in the proximal tibia
• at P14 small mice have severely reduced hypertrophic zones with disorganized chondrocytes in the proximal tibia
• coronal craniosynostosis at P5-15 in small mice only
• a slight delay in the ossification sequence of the phalanges is seen in small mice
• however, no obvious hand or foot malformations are seen
hearing/vestibular/ear
• variable abnormalities of the middle ear bones in some small mice
• variable abnormalities of the otic capsule in some small mice
• unilateral or bilateral elevation in auditory brainstem responses were seen in 1 of 2 small mice that survived to P21-28
craniofacial
• at P10 the skull vault height to length and height to width ratios are increased in small mice only
• variable abnormalities of the middle ear bones in some small mice
