• degeneration of substantia gelatinosa lamina II axons in adulthood

• hyper-proliferation of T cells, with a greater proportion of T cells entering the cell cycle in response to ConA, however showed minimal effects on B cell proliferation
• normal spleen, thymus, kidney, lung and development of T and B lymphocytes
• 2-fold increase in IL-2 following ConA treatment but not in response to LPS
• increased release of T cell-derived leukaemia inhibitory factor (LIF), a neuropoietic cytokine, from ConA stimulated spleen cells
• 10-fold increase in IL-10 release in response to the mitogen, ConA, but not to LPS
