• in younger male animals (12 weeks) two-dimensional transthoracic echocardiography showed increased left ventricular mass
• in older male animals (>14 months) whole heart and individual chamber weights, indexed to tibia length, showed increased left ventricular mass and increased right ventricular weight
• at 35 weeks of age, significant decreases in percent fractional shortening are seen by two-dimensional transthoracic echocardiography
• increases in mean arterial pressure resulting from increases in both systolic blood pressure and diastolic blood pressure on normal diet
• systolic blood pressure is further elevated with dietary salt loading
• systolic blood pressure is further elevated with dietary salt loading
