• frequent perinatal lethality is seen

growth/size/body
• mutant pups are frequently smaller in stature at birth

• the number of tail vertebrae was reduced by 10 due to the loss of the caudal vertebrae without lateral processes

skeleton
• the number of tail vertebrae was reduced by 10 due to the loss of the caudal vertebrae without lateral processes

integument
• increased proliferation of both epidermal and follicular keratinocytes is seen in the outer root shaft and suprabasal layer
• seen in juvenile homozygotes most severely on the ventral and anterior-dorsal trunk and head
• the cuticle had irregular or no septation in plucked mutant coat hair with frequnt fracturing near the root
• thickened outer root sheaths
• apparent in 5 day old homozygotes primarily the result of thickened outer root sheath
• by 2-3 months of age many hair follicles have degenerated into cyst-like structures
• the vibrissae display changes in cuticular septation with frequent lesions and the cuticles were generally denser and less well defined
• the squamous cell layer is irregular and disorganized and contributes to the epidermal thickening
• the suprabasal layer is irregular and disorganized and contributes to the epidermal thickening
• apparent in 5 day old homozygotes
• in juveniles
• ichthyosis is seen in adults
• severely affected homozygotes display skin ulcerations
• in newborns
