• myelination is delayed and in culture the myelin sheaths are not as elaborate or extensive as in wild-type
• at P12 and P49, significantly fewer myelinated axons are seen in the visual cortex most prominently in layers I and IV

• cortical sources of vision-evoked potential waves 2 and 3 are delayed and the magnitude of Ca2+ responses to stimuli is reduced in oligodendrocytes
