• retinyl ester levels in the milk are reduced with the greatest reduction seen in retinyl palmitate levels
• at weaning but not at 11 or 17 weeks of age, total retinol levels in the heart are reduced; however no difference in retinoid uptake is seen in the heart, mammary gland, or adipose tissue
• at 11 weeks of age retinol and retinyl ester levels are reduced in the mammary gland; only levels of specific retinyl ester (retinyl palmitate) are reduced
• at 17 weeks of age retinol but not retinyl ester levels are reduced in the mammary gland
