growth/size/body
• on a regular or high fat diet homozygotes weigh 8% or 9%, respectively, more than wild-type mice; however no significant difference in food intake is seen
adipose tissue
• both lean mass and percent body fat are increased compared to wild-type mice
homeostasis/metabolism
• homozygotes display a slight resistance to insulin but normal glucose tolerance
behavior/neurological
• for the first 3 days after introduction to a novel enclosed environment homozygotes travel less total distance in the first hour, after 3 days wild-type and homozygous mice travel similar distances
• however, exploration of novel objections and performance in a Morris water maze test are normal
• homozygotes spend less time, enter less often, and travel less in the center of an open field or the open arm of an elevated plus maze
• homozygotes swim slightly but significantly slower than wild-type mice
