mortality/aging
nervous system
• neural crest cells are absent from the gut anlage at E11 - E11.5 and from the gut at E12.5 - E13.5 suggesting a failure of these cells to colonize the anlage of the stomach and intestine
• enteric ganglia are present around the cardiac stomach but severely reduced or absent in more caudal gastric regions and throughout the intestine
digestive/alimentary system
• absence of milk in the intestine suggests impaired gastrointestinal peristalsis
renal/urinary system
• kidneys lack a recognizable medulla, cortex, and nephrogenic zone and have large regions of undifferentiated mesenchyme
• kidneys are severely hypoplastic with very few recognizable nephric elements
this phenotype is similar but not as severe as in homozygous Ret null mice
• at E12.5 - E13.5 the number of ureteric bud tips is severely reduced
embryo
• neural crest cells are absent from the gut anlage at E11 - E11.5 and from the gut at E12.5 - E13.5 suggesting a failure of these cells to colonize the anlage of the stomach and intestine
muscle
• absence of milk in the intestine suggests impaired gastrointestinal peristalsis
