Spermatogenesis is disrupted in Tex14tm1Zuk/Tex14tm1Zuk male mice

reproductive system
• testes of postnatal day 10 males contained fewer spermatocytes than heterozygous mice
• mutant males 21 days of age display severe degeneration and depletion of spermatocytes
• early meiotic markers are expressed but meiosis is disrupted before completion of the first meiotic division
• germ cell intercellular bridges are not formed
• meiosis is disrupted during the first cycle of spermatogenesis
• testes of postnatal day 10 males show early signs of Sertoli cell vacuolization due to germ cell depletion
• testes from both juvenile and adult males are significantly smaller than testes of normal males
• testes weight of 6 week old mutant males are 26% the weight of wild-type males

endocrine/exocrine glands
• testes of postnatal day 10 males show early signs of Sertoli cell vacuolization due to germ cell depletion
• testes from both juvenile and adult males are significantly smaller than testes of normal males
• testes weight of 6 week old mutant males are 26% the weight of wild-type males
