• at stage when L chain rearrangement should have been completed, number of IgM+ B220+ cells (0.4 x 106) in bone marrow is reduced by >50% compared to normal mice (J:118712)
• in mutants PPs have a dramatically reduced cell content compared to controls
• there are small but highly active germinal centers
• after immunization with antigens which elicit a restricted response in normal mice, there is an elevated antibody titer but mice display no titer increase after secondary challenge
