• ovaries and uteri are comparable in size and shape in XY and XX mice
• only 3.5% of homozygous mice are phenotypically male but the expected percentage of XY mice are found
• male to female sex reversal with external genitalia in XY mice closely resembling those in XX mice
• XY females are infertile; however, XX females are fertile
