• production of Tnfa, Il6, and Il2 in response to zymosan or whole fungal cells (C. albicans) is severely impaired in bone marrow dendritic cells; however cytokine expression in response to TLR ligands is similar to wild-type
• bone marrow dendritic cells fail to produce Il10 in response to zymosan

• all mice die within 5 days of injection of live Candida albicans compared to about 50% mortality in wild-type mice at 12 days after infection
• 4 days after infection, macroscopic infiltration of fungal cells is seen in the kidneys and the load of fungal cells in the kidneys and liver is 100-fold higher than in wild-type mice
• however, homozygotes clear bacterial infection as well as wild-type
