• approximately 70% of adult mice show stromal angiogenesis and corneal neovascularization
• young adult mice show corneal haze, corneal inflammation and vascular remnants and an epithelial defect after central corneal debridement wounding
• approximately 70% of adult mice show corneal inflammatory infiltrate
• in eyes showing haze or cloudiness, the stroma consists of a densely packed mixture of polymorphonuclear, mononuclear, and lymphocytic infiltrates with numerous vascular profiles
• infiltrates include neutrophils, macrophages, T cells and dendritic cells
• young adult mice show increased corneal inflammation after central corneal debridement wounding
• approximately 70% of adult (60-80 weeks of age) mice develop changes in corneal epithelial morphology, ranging from a thin, disorganized epithelium to a more stratified thickened epidermoid tissue
