behavior/neurological
• in a thin rod test, null mice walk slowly and essentially are crawling along bar, compared to wild-type which traverse bar quickly and proficiently; mutant mice frequently stop and curl tail around bar
• in a rotarod test, null mice fail to stay on bar, showing significant impairment in all trials with little improvement

nervous system
• Purkinje cell dendritic innervation by climbing fibers is abnormal; there is evidence of multiple innervation, with dendrites showing innervation by two climbing fibers
• a higher percentage of Purkinje cells (PCs) in cerebellar slices display 2 or more discrete EPSCs than wild-type Purkinje cells
• PCs with multiple EPSCs have EPSCs with small amplitudes and slow rise times compared to wild-type
• EPSCs are elicited in all-or-none fashion and show paired-pulse depression in mutants
