• in the absence of bile duct ligation, no significant differences in liver function are detected and serum and hematological properties are similar to wild-type

• 3 days after bile duct ligation liver bile acid levels are increased 1.5-fold

• in everted gut sac experiments, the transileal taurocholate (TC) transport is reduced more than in single Osta homozygotes, indicating further impairment in intestinal bile acid transport
• efflux of taurocholate from tissue to the serosal side (amount of TC in serosal fluid/TC associated with tissue) is decreased
