cardiovascular system
• myocardium shows fibroblasts with abundant rough ER, suggesting some underlying fibrosis in trabeculae, although show no gross fibrosis
• trabeculae tend to be larger than in wild-type
• both intact and skinned trabeculae show impaired active force generation compared to wild-type, indicating reduced contractile function, however systolic blood pressure and heart rate are normal
• inotropic responses to increases of bath calcium concentrations, pacing frequency, and isoproterenol are reduced compared to wild-type
• skinned trabeculae have about 50% reduction of force development compared to wild-type
• unstimulated trabeculae have greater passive force at increased sarcomere length compared to wild-type, indicating increased myocardial stiffness
