nervous system
• mice have a reduced seizure threshold at 32.7+/-1.17mg PTZ/kg compared to 39.1+/-0.96mg PTZ/kg in wild-type
• similar decreases in seizure threshold were obtained with the KOR-specific antagonist GNTI that were reversible with treatment with KOR agonist U-50488
• similar decreases in seizure threshold were obtained with the DOR selective agonist SNC80
• following KA treatment, mice have a faster onset of seizures with prolonged seizure activity
• however, treatment with the MOR selective agonist DAMGO did not affect seizure threshold
• the area of somatostatin (SST-ir) interneurons in the ipsilateral area CA3 is reduced
• contralateral CA3a interneurons are decreased
• following seizure induction, mice have broader extent of granule cell dispersion along the rostrocaudal axis of the ipsilateral hippocampus

behavior/neurological

digestive/alimentary system
• under nonfasted conditions, mice have increased daily fecal output

homeostasis/metabolism
• when fed a high fat diet, males do not show increased nonfasting serum insulin levels or free fatty acid concentration
• fat feeding results in a decrease in free T4
• following insulin injection, males and females have decreased serum glucose
• following insulin injection, males and females have 3- to 4-fold decreased serum glucagons
• nonfasted males have increased serum corticosterone
• fat feeding results in a decrease in free IGF-I
• heat production is decreased in females
• males have a reduced respiratory exchange ratio (RER)
• following insulin injection, males and females have decreased serum glucose and serum glucagons
• following insulin injection, females have increased serum levels of 3,4-dihydroxyphenlacetic (DOPAC) and 3,4-dihydroxyphenylglycol (DHPG)

adipose tissue
• fasting males but not females have reduced subcutaneous (inguinal) white adipose tissue
• under nonfasting conditions, mice have lighter white adipose tissue deposits when compared to wild-type mice
• fasting males but not females have reduced visceral (mesenteric) white adipose tissue

behavior/neurological
• when fed regular chow, mice spill more food than wild-type mice
• however, when fed a high fat diet mice do not spill their food more than wild-type mice
• female mice have reduced physical activity

growth/size/body
• lean mass was significantly reduced in females
• following 24 ours of fasting, mice loss more weight than wild-type mice

skeleton
• total bone mineral content is increased

integument
• fasting males but not females have reduced subcutaneous (inguinal) white adipose tissue
