immune system
• at week 4, CD3+CD4-CD8- cells numbers are increased in Peyer's patches
• at week 4 and 12, the number of CD3+CD4+ T cells within the Peyer's patches is increased
• however, the number of CD8+ T cells is normal within the Peyer's patches and T cell numbers are normal in the spleen
• at weeks 4, 12 and 52, the number of cells within a Peyer's patch (PP) is increased relative to that in wild-type mice
• at week 4 and 12, the number of CD3+CD4+ and CD3+CD4-CD8- T cells within the PPs is increased
• however, the number of CD8+ T cells is normal within the PPs
• at weeks 4, 12 and 22 after birth, the number of Peyer's patch is increased
• however, at birth the number of Peyer's patch is normal
• in adult mice, the Peyer's patch are larger than in wild-type mice
• at weeks 12 and 52, the number of lymphoid follicles isolated per small intestine is increased
• in a TNBS (2,4,6-trinitrobenzene sulphonic acid)-induced colitis model mice experience more colonic mucosal damage than in wild-type mice as well as higher mucosal concentrations of IL-1beta, TNF-alpha and IL-12
• at week 4 and 12, interferon-gamma levels are increased within the Peyer's patches
• at week 4 but not in adult mice, interferon-gamma levels are increased within Peyer's patch-free ileum
• at week 4 and 12, IL-4 and IL-12 levels are increased within the Peyer's patches
• in a TNBS (2,4,6-trinitrobenzene sulphonic acid)-induced colitis model mice experience higher mucosal concentrations of IL-1beta and IL-12
• at week 4 and 12, TNF-alpha levels are increased within the Peyer's patches
• at week 4 but not adult mice, TNF-alpha levels are increased within Peyer's patch-free ileum
• in a TNBS (2,4,6-trinitrobenzene sulphonic acid)-induced colitis model mice experience higher mucosal concentrations of TNF-alpha
• passage of chemically killed Escherichia coli (K-12) and a living non-pathogenic E coli strain J53 is accelerated relative to passage in wild-type mice
