• cells fail to proliferate when transferred to a lymphocytic choriomeningitis virus infected wild-type mouse
• 20% reduction in spleen
• however, the number of CD4+ cells is unaffected and no change is seen in CD4+ or CD8+ cell numbers in the thymus
• reduction in the number of cells that bind to MHC tetramer loaded with a viral specific antigen
• reduction in the frequency of cells that respond to a viral specific antigen
• reduction in interferon gamma production in response to some but not all antigens of the lymphocytic choriomeningitis virus

hematopoietic system
