growth/size/body
• during postnatal period, body weight and size are slightly smaller than heterozygous and wild-type controls, but difference is absent in adult animals
behavior/neurological
• all mutants move left and right hindlimbs synchronously, resulting in a rabbit-like hopping gait
nervous system
• ipsilateral motor cortex contains many corticospinal tract neurons, whereas in controls most CST neurons are located in layer V of the contralateral motor cortex
• cell count of motor cortex shows 34% more cells in the ipsilateral cortex compared to the contralateral cortex while controls only show a 2% increase in cell number
• aberrant midline recrossing of corticospinal tract axons is observed in spinal cord of all mutants
• at P4, more neurons cross the midline relative to wild-type or heterozygous controls
• white matter in dorsal funiculus is reduced, most prominently at the lumbar levels
• in spinal cords of P1-P3 animals, upon stimulation with NMDA and serotonin left and right lumbar 2 ventral root activity displays a synchronous rhythm in contrast to the alternating left and right activity exhibited by controls
