• in culture, increased cell death in bone marrow pro-B cells is observed compared to controls, with decrease in cell viability
• significant block at pro- to pre-B cell transition is seen in young and aged mice
• transition from double-negative 3 to double-negative 4 stage shows a slightly less noticeable block than displayed by B cells
• mice are severely lyphopenic over entire period of observation
• B cell number particularly B-1 B cells are lower than controls and 3-12 weeks and remain lower at 18-41 weeks of age
• B-2 cell number is lower than controls at 3-12 weeks of age
