Mouse lines carrying:
Tg(Ins2-CD86)12B70Flv mutation (1 available)
Tg(Ins2-Tnf)17Flv mutation (0 available)
phenotype observed in females
phenotype observed in males
N normal phenotype
homeostasis/metabolism
• ~80% of animals show elevated blood glucose levels by 6 weeks of age

immune system
• frequency of Il4-positive cells in infiltrated islets increases as double transgenic mice become diabetic;frequency of Ifng-positive cells is higher than in double mutants expressing CD80 and Tnf
• frequency of Il4+, Th2 cells is dramatically reduced compared to single CD86 transgenic littermates
• all double mutants become diabetic, compared to single transgenic Tnf animals

mortality/aging
• diabetes-like symptoms (dehydration, weight loss) lead to death of most animals by 6 months of age

growth/size/body

immune system
• double mutants develop insulitis at 2 months of age
• mice have a greater number of cytokine-positive cells (Il4 or Ifng) compared to mice coexpressing CD80 and the MHC class II transgene
• mice develop clinical signs of diabetes

endocrine/exocrine glands
• mice show autoimmune destruction of pancreatic beta cells
• double mutants develop insulitis at 2 months of age

homeostasis/metabolism
• mice show elevated blood glucose levels (363 mg/dl at 8 weeks rising to 402 mg/dl at 6 months)

immune system
• mice do not display any autoimmune pathology until 7 months of age; at ~7-8 months, mice develop a perivascular/periductal (peri-islet) infiltration; by 14 months of age, infiltrate has not progressed to insulitis or diabetes
• there are 3-10 times more Il4-positive cells than Ifng-positive cells in islet infiltrates; an increased accumulation of Il4-positive cells in pancreatic infiltrates is observed as mice age
• transgenic mice do not develop autoimmune diabetes

endocrine/exocrine glands
• mice do not display any autoimmune pathology until 7 months of age; at ~7-8 months, mice develop a perivascular/periductal (peri-islet) infiltration; by 14 months of age, infiltrate has not progressed to insulitis or diabetes
