• peritoneal macrophages from homozygous mutant mice fail to produce TNF-alpha in response to triacyl lipopeptides, TLR2/1 ligands

• peritoneal macrophages from homozygous mutant mice fail to produce TNF-alpha in response to peptidoglycans, TLR2/6 ligands

• lipopolysaccharide, a ligand of TLR4, stimulates production by mutant macrophages of detectable but significantly reduced amounts of TNF-alpha

• homozygous mutant macrophages produce normal amounts of TNF-alpha in response to poly I:C, a TLR3 ligand
