• CD4 silencing is defective in these mice leading to premature expression of CD4 in T-cell precursors and expression of CD4 on cytotoxic T cells that normally only express CD8
• these peripheral double positive T cells have the cytotoxic effector functions of CD8+ T cells
• all CD8+ T cells co-express CD4 leading to a slight increase in double positive numbers in the thymus and large increase in numbers in the spleen
• percentage of CD4 single positive T cells are slightly increased in the thymus

hematopoietic system
