homeostasis/metabolism
• islet beta cells have decreased secretion of insulin 2 hours after the addition of the free fatty acid palmitic acid
• insulin secretion in response to glucose is somewhat diminished
• 48 hours exposure to palmitic acid leads to an insulin secretion response similar to wild-type mice
• mice have lower fasted serum insulin levels
• mice fed a high fat diet for 8 weeks also have lower insulin levels compared to diet-matched controls
• mice fed a high-fat diet for 8 weeks maintain normal serum levels of triglycerides compared to abnormally high levels of serum triglycerides in wild-type mice fed the same diet
• mice fed a high fat diet for 8 weeks have decreased hepatitic glucose production after pyruvate injection than in controls
• the level of glucose production is similar to what is observed in chow fed wild-type mice
• unfasted and fasted glucose levels in mice fed a high-fat diet for 8 weeks is lower than in diet-matched controls
• mice fed a high fat diet for 8 weeks have improved glucose tolerance with lower blood glucose levels observed after injection of glucose compared diet-matched wild-type controls
• mice fed a high-fat diet for 8 weeks have less insulin resistance than diet-matched wild-type controls with blood glucose levels dropping 40% after insulin injection compared to under 20% for controls

endocrine/exocrine glands
• islet beta cells have decreased secretion of insulin 2 hours after the addition of the free fatty acid palmitic acid
• insulin secretion in response to glucose is somewhat diminished
• 48 hours exposure to palmitic acid leads to an insulin secretion response similar to wild-type mice

liver/biliary system
• mice fed a high-fat diet for 8 weeks are resistant to developing hepatic steatosis compared to controls
