immune system
• mutant allele contains 2 Vgamma2 gene segments, one in the normal upstream position and the second at the downstream position normally occupied by Vgamma3
• the downstream Vgamma2 gene segment rearranged four to five more times frequently than the upstream gene segment in E14 fetal thymocytes
• the total level of Vgamma2 rearrangements is four fold higher in E14 thymocytes compared to wild-type embryos
• in adult mice, there is about a 2-fold preference in rearrangement of the upstream Vgamma2 gene segment compared to the downstream gene segment, which is much smaller than the 25-fold preference for Vgamma2 rearrangements over the downstream Vgamma3 gene segment observed in wild-type mice
• germline transcripts are found at the same level as in wild-type embyros in E14 thymocytes but there is a 2.2-fold reduction in germline transcripts of the downstream Vgamma2 gene segment in adult mice
