Impaired epidermal barrier in Alox12btm1.1Krie/Alox12btm1.1Krie mice

mortality/aging
• all homozygous mutant mice died within 3-5 h after birth
• no embryonic lethality and at birth homozygous mice were hard to distinguish from wild-type

homeostasis/metabolism
• homozygous neonates did not feed and became progressively dehydrated prior to death within 3-5 h after birth
• about 30 % of their body weight was lost within 3 h by increased transepidermal water loss
• skin of mutant mice remained permeable at E18.5
• the barrier function of tight junctions were not affected
