• splenic B cells co-express gamma 2b (Igh-3) and mu (Igh-6) on all Igh-3+ cells
• membrane Igh-3 levels are higher than membrane Igh-6 levels in 12 day old fetal liver cells

• less than 1% of splenic lymphocytes are either mu or kappa positive in neonatal mice
• by 4 weeks of age, mice exhibit approximately 5 fold fewer mu or kappa positive cells in the spleen, however, by 16 weeks B cells increase to near normal numbers
• B220(lo), mIg- bone marrow cells contain fewer small pre-B cells than control (69-80% vs. 44-56%)
