N normal phenotype
nervous system
• at 22 months of age, forebrain weight is decreased compared to in wild-type mice
• however, striatal cellular morphology is normal
• as mice age, lateral ventricles are progressively smaller in size than in wild-type mice
• at 6 months of age, mice exhibit intranuclear inclusion bodies that progressively increase in size and number as mice age
• at 8.5 months of age, inclusions are detected in Purkinje cells but are less numerous at 22 months of age

behavior/neurological
• female mice exhibit impaired performance on a rotarod compared to wild-type mice that progressively worsens between 10 and 16 months
• male mice exhibit impaired performance on a rotarod compared to wild-type mice
• male mice exhibit decreased locomotor activity compared to wild-type mice that is most pronounced in the first 5 minutes of testing
