• there is a trend to cardioprotection in these mice when cardiac stress is induced by banding but results do not reach significant values
• the ratio of left ventricular mass/body-weight after banding increased to a greater extent in WT (82%) than in mutant (61%) mice
• there was also a trend towards less systolic dysfunction caused by banding with less drop in a functional index (0.77 in wild-type versus 0.85 in mutants) and in stroke volume (25.8 microliters in wild-type versus 34.1 microliters in mutant mice)
