taste/olfaction
• show a diminished preference for linoleic acid in a 2 bottle preference test
• glossopharyngeal nerve responses to oleic acid, linoleic acid, linolenic acid, or lauric acid are diminished compared to responses in control mice
• however, no differences are detected in the responses of the chorda tympani
• indifferent to all concentrations of linoleic acid and oleic acid suggesting a profound defect in the ability to taste these fatty acids
• no differences are detected in taste sensitivity for bitter, sweet, sour, salty or umami
