Epb41l5tm1Sia/Epb41l5tm1Sia mice display mesodermal and epithelial-mesenchymal transition defects

embryo
• loss of columnar epithelial shape
• multiple layers
• minimal intercellular spaces
• normal tight junctions, adherens junctions, and desmosomes apically but not elsewhere
• basement membrane barely detectable
• tight intercellular contacts between endoderm cells
• no basement membrane
• differentiating at E7.5 but migrating poorly
• few intercellular spaces among invaginating mesoderm cells
• head fold development at E8.5 is poor with a minimum of mesoderm
• reduced in size at E6.5
• E6.5 embryos histologically normal despite size
• multiple cell layers at E8.5
• neuroectoderm is hypertrophic at E8.5
• pre-somitic mesoderm is generated but segmented somites never form

nervous system
• multiple cell layers at E8.5
• neuroectoderm is hypertrophic at E8.5

growth/size/body
• reduced in size at E6.5
• E6.5 embryos histologically normal despite size

digestive/alimentary system
• foregut fails to close
