cardiovascular system
• cardiomyocytes exhibit a 23% decrease in cell shortening, a 29% decrease in maximal rate of contraction, and a 36% decrease in maximal rate of relaxation compared to wild-type cells
• following transverse aortic banding, decreased cardiomyocyte contractility is partially restored but not to wild-type levels
• cardiomyocytes exhibit a 36% decrease in maximal rate of relaxation compared to wild-type cells
• transient calcium ion decay in cardiomyocytes is increased 29% compared to in wild-type cells
• cardiomyocyte sarcoplasmic reticulum re-uptake of calcium ions is reduced 39% compared to in wild-type cells
• however, baseline calcium ion content is normal
• following transverse aortic banding, mice exhibit a 65% increase in heart weight compared to a 38% increase in similarly treated wild-type mice with increased ventricular cross-sectional area
• following transverse aortic banding, decreased cardiomyocyte contractility is partially restored but not to wild-type levels
