mortality/aging
• very few survive to E8.5 and none are found in decidua past E8.5

embryo
• expression analysis indicates that embryos fail to undergo gastrulation
• little growth occurs between E6.5 and E7.5
• at E7.5 mutant embryos are consistently smaller than their normal littermates and are approximately the size of a normal E6.5
• smaller embryonic portion at E6.5
• epiblast dysmorphogenesis
• at E7.5 embryos have small, grossly malformed embryonic portions with no apparent mesoderm
• at E7.5, Reicherts' membrane often appears to be loosely adhered to the egg cylinder
• at E7.5, the yolk sac often appears to be loosely adhered to the egg cylinder
• at E6.5 cells maintain a cuboidal morphology around the entire egg cylinder and the amniotic cavity is only beginning to form
• at E7.5 cells maintain a cuboidal morphology and are not organized lack mature AVE
• failure of the distal visceral endoderm to form the anterior visceral endoderm
• expression analysis indicates the distal visceral endoderm is formed but timing of migration is abnormal and cells fail to adopt the correct morphology

growth/size/body
• little growth occurs between E6.5 and E7.5
• at E7.5 mutant embryos are consistently smaller than their normal littermates and are approximately the size of a normal E6.5

cellular
• at E6.5 discontinuous laminin localization in embryos suggests a defect in basement membrane morphology

limbs/digits/tail
• display wedge, block, and hemi-vertebrae
• occasional fusion of the myotomes in the tail
• tail kink first detected at E13.5 as a curled tail tip
• variations in tail length are due to a reduced number of total vertebrae, severe malformation of vertebrae (i.e., fused or wedge-shaped vertebrae), and/or a combination of the two
• tails range from almost full length with a few kinks to a curly Q tail
• variable kinkyness, form a few kinks to a curly Q tail
• tail kink first detected at E13.5 as a curled tail tip

skeleton
• display wedge, block, and hemi-vertebrae
• variably sized or absent intervertebral disks in the tail

embryo
• dorsally branched and thickened notochord at E12.5
• abnormalities are restricted to the tail region

muscle
• occasional fusion of the myotomes in the tail
